Loughborough Lightning hosted the first of their pre-season tournaments on Saturday (10th November) and allowed them, Team Bath and Strathclyde Sirens to showcase their new signings ahead of the Vitality Superleague 2019.
A 400 strong crowd of netball fans took to the Arena to witness the Vitality Superleague sides take to court, and cheer on their new-look teams ahead of the 2019 campaign.
The first game saw Sirens star signing Cat Tuivaiti shooting well and eager to impress, and despite Lightnings best efforts to disrupt her flow, The Scottish side lead throughout the game and celebrated a convincing 28 – 51 victory over the home side.
Match number two saw Sirens back on court against Team Bath who welcomed back Commonwealth Gold medallist Serena Guthrie, following her successful stint playing in Australia. Sirens went into the half-time break in the lead, however Team Bath refused to give up, and came from behind to take the win 39-33.
The final game of the day saw Lightning take on Team Bath, and they seemed eager to right the wrongs of their earlier defeat - taking the lead 5-0 in the opening minutes and leading for most of the first half. Once again Team Bath showed a second half surge, and came from behind to draw level in the final quarter. Their experience showed as they managed to score two goals in the dying moments to take their second win of the day to secure the overall Tri-Tournament victory. Final Score: Lightning 37 – 39 Team Bath.
