Commonwealth Gold Medallist and England Roses mid-courter Beth Cobden has been ruled out of the 2018-19 International Season with a ruptured ACL.
The Loughborough Lightning star, was forced off injured towards the end of the first quarter of the Vitality Netball Superleague Grand Final against Wasps, who went on to win the match 55-51 and take back-to-back Super League titles.
Lightning Assistant Coach Margaret Birkinshaw believes Beth’s injury was a huge loss for Loughborough, and had an impact on the game. She said:
“You have leaders throughout the court, and Beth is world class, and a Commonwealth gold medallist. You look to players like her to lead throughout the court which is what she was doing. Your heart just sinks whenever any of your players go down, but when you’ve got somebody of Beth’s quality, that’s the difference of five or six goals and we lost by four.”
England Netball Performance Director, Sara Symington, said:
“Beth has had an incredible season in 2017-18 – both contributing to Englands Commonwealth Games gold and being instrumental in Lightning’s journey to the VNSL Grand Final. The best treatment and rehab will be sought to ensure Beth makes a full recovery and all of the Roses will rally around Beth to support her through her recovery and we look forward to having her back in an England dress as soon as possible.”
